Hello! and welcome to the home of Debt Free Geek!

My name is Chris, I’m a personal finance blogger, and I work as a Director of Cybersecurity Operations for a financial institution in my spare time. 🙂 The girl sporting a face-palm is my wife. We have two lovely children, a dog and a rat cat.

I became debt free at age 28, paying off over $150,000 in 3.5 years.

Yes, the house and all… and I thought that was all there was to it. So I spent the next few years enjoying my new-found financial freedom. We made some long-overdue changes to the house, enjoyed fancy food and wine, and bought a few toys. It was a welcome breather from living on a super tight budget, but it wasn’t everything it was cracked up to be.

We discovered a cold hard truth: money doesn’t make us happy.

Not only that, but we also didn’t like the idea of slaving away at our 9-5 jobs for 30 more years, waiting for a traditional retirement.

Then, in January 2017, our 15 month-old daughter was diagnosed with a genetic, neurological disorder.

Enough was enough. We needed a change, and fast.

So, Debt Free Geek was born. I use this blog to teach my readers how to get (and stay) focused on financial goals that support a more fulfilling lifestyle. I am thrilled to share my experience with readers in a way that will challenge them to get off their rumps and change their lives for the better.

You won’t find any click-bait articles or regurgitated content on this site. I am a considerate and thoughtful student of life, and I write thought provoking content about working a 9-5, managing money, and my life experiences.

Do any of these topics interest you? Then I hope you’ll join the community so that we can travel this narrow and winding road together.
